Development of the Eole station in the basement of the Cnit (92)
By 2022 the Eole station should have been slipped beneath the Cnit of La Défense. How to integrate a metropolitan station in the basement of this flagship building without turning the Cnit into an “glorified station”? The strategy is to approach the Cnit with a great deal of benevolence and to preserve this symbol of identity of La Défense in its original trade-leisure function while reaffirming its function of entrance to the business district, both from Europe or Paris. Raising the potential of the business district and giving it a new image requires better orchestration of population movements and better accessibility from the busy central clusters. The future station of the Eole line that will put the business district five minutes from the Saint Lazare station and 15 minutes from Gare de L’Est and Gare du Nord. This new RER station is a new point of flow of workers, distributed in the morning and absorbed in the evening. The challenge is to integrate this major metro hub at Cnit without making it a “simple station”, without the flow and signage attached taking overpowering the destination’s character.
